Ta renomowana jednostka badawcza zajmuje si\u0119 szerokim spektrum problem\u00f3w zwi\u0105zanych z procesami atmosferycznymi zachodz\u0105cymi we wszystkich istotnych skalach przestrzennych i czasowych. G\u0142\u00f3wna siedziba Centrum jest zlokalizowana w mie\u015bcie Boulder w stanie Kolorado. Dodatkowo NCAR posiada nowoczesne centrum superkomputerowe w Wyoming oraz liczne zaawansowane systemy detekcji stanu atmosfery.<\/p><p>\u015acis\u0142a wsp\u00f3\u0142praca IMGW-PIB z NCAR zosta\u0142a zapocz\u0105tkowana w 2009 r. W\u00f3wczas to konsorcjum COSMO, zrzeszaj\u0105ce szereg europejskich kraj\u00f3w, prowadzi\u0142o aktywne badania nad opracowaniem nowego zachowawczego rdzenia dynamicznego dla rozwijanego przez nie numerycznego modelu prognozowania pogody. Poszukiwania te zaowocowa\u0142y decyzj\u0105 o integracji badawczego modelu EULAG z modelem COSMO. Celem tych dzia\u0142a\u0144 by\u0142o stworzenie alternatywy dla stosowanych w tamtym czasie rdzeni dynamicznych. Jednymi z g\u0142\u00f3wnych tw\u00f3rc\u00f3w modelu EULAG s\u0105 dwaj polscy naukowcy, kt\u00f3rzy od wielu lat pracuj\u0105 w NCAR. S\u0105 to prof. Piotr Smolarkiewicz i prof. Wojciech Grabowski. Zadanie w\u0142\u0105czenia modelu EULAG do COSMO zosta\u0142o powierzone zespo\u0142owi w IMGW-PIB, kt\u00f3ry uzyska\u0142 dla tej pracy naukowe wsparcie NCAR i tw\u00f3rc\u00f3w EULAGA. Prace te zako\u0144czy\u0142y si\u0119 sukcesem i w ich wyniku model EULAG zosta\u0142 zintegrowany z modelem COSMO. Obecnie rdze\u0144 dynamiczny modelu EULAG jest u\u017cywany w Instytucie do przygotowywania operacyjnych prognoz pogody.<\/p><p>Wsp\u00f3\u0142praca obu instytut\u00f3w rozci\u0105ga si\u0119 tak\u017ce na inne obszary. Pracownicy IMGW-PIB odbywali sta\u017ce podoktorskie w laboratorium MMM (Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory) NCAR. Ponadto Bogdan Rosa od 2006 r. rozwija wsp\u00f3\u0142prac\u0119 z naukowcami z Centrum w zakresie modelowania mikrofizycznych proces\u00f3w chmurowych. Kontakty te zaowocowa\u0142y szeregiem publikacji w renomowanych czasopismach naukowych. Wsp\u00f3\u0142praca z NCAR to nie tylko wymiana wiedzy, ale r\u00f3wnie\u017c mo\u017cliwo\u015b\u0107 wykorzystania du\u017cych zasob\u00f3w obliczeniowych co pozwala bada\u0107 i modelowa\u0107 z\u0142o\u017cone procesy atmosferyczne z wi\u0119ksz\u0105 dok\u0142adno\u015bci\u0105.<br \/><br \/><em>dr hab.
